If the outlet in my bathroom does not work, what should I do?

The first step is to check and see if the bathroom outlet is a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) receptacle – a GFI receptacle will have a “test” and “reset” button. You will have two scenarios:

  1. If it is a GFI receptacle press the “test” button followed by the “reset” button. If this does not work, you will need to reset the breaker at your electrical panel.
  2. If it is not a GFT receptacle, go to the other bathrooms in the house until you find a GFI receptacle and press “test” and “reset on them. On most older houses and some newer homes the bathroom receptacles are connected – this is not a safety concern, but it can become a nuisance.
