When is a fire alarm system required?
May 15, 2015
There are several variables which contribute to needing a fire alarm system. These variables include: water in the area for firefighting, size and location of the building and if there is public access to the building. Not every jurisdiction has the same requirements for fire alarm systems. If you are a builder, gather all of the information together for the project and meet with the fire marshal for your jurisdiction for the requirements. The fire marshal will also answer any other questions or concerns you may have. If the tenant or owner has further requirements than what is required by the jurisdiction, gather all of the possible information and speak to the fire marshal. For example, a hotel chain may have more requirements for their fire alarm system than what is required by the local jurisdiction.
